Dacotah Performance Horses

Located in a small rural setting, the hamlet of Dacotah is a half mile off of the Trans Canada Highway 15 minutes west of Winnipeg's perimeter.  The 16 stall barn is attached to an arena and surrounded by green pastures in the summer. A quiet place with lots of room to tack-up, ride, or roam around with your four or two legged friends.

Sarah Southwell

Sarah has been involved with Horses her whole life. Growing up on a farm in a strong ranch and horse community, Sarah took every opprotunity to immerse herself in the equine industry. She has trained under professionals in everything from racing to reining. She has worked at camps in the mountains and helped out at brandings in the foothills. Shes shown in reining, working cow horse and ranch horse, western pleasure, hunter, halter, trail, and equitation. Sarah has competed at rodeos for pole bending, barrel racing, and goat tying. She has also worked and trained horses for a re-enactment of the musical ride.

At the age of 14 Sarah began working as an assistant trainer where she learned to start young horses, manage equine nutrition, and care for long yearlings for the race track. Four years later she started her own business staring young horses and teaching lessons. Soon after Sarah also began working for a custom breeding facility working alongside a vet, Artificially inseminating mares, foaling out pregnant mares, training, and teaching lessons.

Since then Sarah has moved to Manitoba where she has become an established figure in the Manitoba Equine industry. She now teaches Horsemanship lessons for all level of riders with a particular emphasis on safety for the students and animals.Her experience and skill with horses as well as her passion and enthusiasm is apparent in everything Dacotah Performance Horses does- whether its boarding, lessons, training, or breeding.

Sarah is certified with the CHA in English and Western disciplines. Sarah will be taking the John and Josh Lyons Certification Program Spring of 2012 to become A Certified Lyons Legacy Trainer.

Carla Bergen-Joyce

Carla was born and raised in southern Manitoba. She began working with horses at a young age;  her evenings and weekends were spent volunteering at various stables and camps to learn as much as she could about horses through experience.
Carla has knowledge in everything from driving to dressage. She has taken lessons in various disciplines, and takes a gentle approach to horsemanship with positive results.
Currently, Carla also manages the Horse program at a local Bible camp where she has gained experience teaching large groups as well as dealing with and managing a large group of horses. 
Carla has worked hard to make her passion into a career.She has a natural ability to calm horses and people who are new to horses. She is a gentle and patient teacher, and is always excited to share her passion with anyone who wants to learn.

Carla is certified with the CHA in English and Western Disciplines.
